Mary Eileen Gabriel
Mary Eileen Gabriel with her Family
After St. Cecilia's, like most of us I think, I went on to St. Hubert's. After that I spent 10 months as a postulant with the IHMs but decided it wasn't the place for me. Subsequently I went to Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing. That was a fun time. After graduation and working at Misery for awhile, I decided to do some volunteer work and joined the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in Nome, Alaska. I worked at the local small hospital and donated my paycheck to support the local catholic radio station. I was there almost 2 years and it was a blast. I met my husband Alex in Nome and we were later married in Kotzebue, Alaska. Our oldest daughter was born there before we headed back to Pittsburgh (Carnegie Mellon University) for grad school for Alex. Daughter number 2 was born there before we headed back to Anchorage, Alaska. After the kids started school I went back to work in various nursing jobs including public health. When the girls finished high school I decided to return to school to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. Not surprising, we went back to Pittsburgh where Alex was vice provost at CMU and I went to school at Slippery Rock and Clarion Universities. Once again we returned to Alaska and I worked at a family practice office for 5 years. I really enjoyed being a nurse practitioner. We continue to live in Alaska in Palmer, a small town about 50 miles north of Anchorage. Our daughters both currently live in the Seattle area.

I've enjoyed the bit of catching up on the reunion website!
